Happy Independence Day - RP for vivo_per_ardua

Flack pulled the car to a stop outside of the overlook at Watchung Rock, before pushing the door open and stretching his legs. It wasn't a log drive, but it's longer than he's used to driving, and he was ready to just sit outside and watch the fireworks. It was slowly starting to get darker, and he just loved the view from this side of the Hudson. You could see the lights of the buildings in the skyline stand out against the slowly darkening sky, and it was nice to see his city from a different angle.

He turned back to the car, and gave Anna a grin, before pointing over towards the rocks. "There should be a place to sit over that way."

Anna pushed her hair off of her shoulder as she got out of the car, leaving her sunglasses in the passenger's seat. She closed her door before opening the backseat door and grabbing her bag.

"Oh wow... Don this is... breathtaking." She said in awe as she took a look at the view, hand going to her chest as she took it all in. God, she needed this. She really did. It would be the last good thing in her life until the usual disaster with her birthday blew over.

"Isn't it," he said with a grin before making his way towards the rocks. "I love coming out here. I try to do it every chance I get."

Anna shouldered her bag and followed him, watching her steps since she'd wisely chosen to wear sandals with her denim capris and strapless black top. "It means a lot that you'd share this with me, Don." She said softly, a loving smile on her face as she caught up to him.

He shrugged slightly, before starting to step over the barriers and out to the rocks and dirt. "Watch your step -- the rocks can get a little slippery."

"Got-- oh shit!" She said as she stepped over the barrier and her sandal caught on the rock, sending her forward.

He turned quickly, using his arm to catch her around the waist and keep her from falling forward to far. "Got it?" he teased with a smirk as he helped put her back in her feet again.

"I don't know about it, but I seem to have gotten you." She smirked, hand resting on his chest as she looked up at him.

The smirk softened into a grin, before pointing in the direction of the overlook. "There should be a spot over there for us to sit."

"Yes. I was just thinking." She shifted closer to him and laid her head on his shoulder, sighing.

The fireworks display continued, and eventually, the clouds started to move overhead. Flack felt a drop land on his shoulder, and he looked up, glancing around with a worried frown.

Anna noticed Don's movement and lifted her head, resting a hand on his chest. "Don? What's wrong?"

The drops started to fall a bit faster, splashing around their shoulders. "I think it's raining," he replied, making a face and starting to get up. "We should head back to the car."

Anna got to her feet and packed her bag before tilting her head to the sky and chuckling as she closed her eyes, letting the rain fall on her face.

He watched her for a minute, before the thunder cracked overhead, and he jumped slightly, listening to the way the sound echoed off the rocks. "We really should go to the car."

"It's just a little rain, Don. Haven't you ever just danced in the rain?" She looked at him as she spun around gracefully.

"Kiss me like I know you must've been wanting to all this time we've been apart." She whispered, breath warm on his lips.

He leaned in and kissed her softly pulling her closer.

"That it? You miss me that much?" She laughed, kissing him back just as softly.

He chuckled slightly, before leaning into the kiss a little more.

She smiled up at him, arms sliding around his waist as she kissed him back a little harder.

He continued the kiss, rubbing her back lightly as he did.

Anna brushed her thumbs against his lower back, slipping her tongue into his mouth and brushing it against his.

"Was it worth the drive?" She asked softly, fingers gently working knots out in his neck and right shoulder.

"Yeah," he said with a nod. "Definitely."

"I'm glad." She smiled, relaxing into her seat and enjoying the drive back.
